Description

A&D FX-i & FZ-i Series: Precision for Ballistics, Liquids, and Lab Production

The A&D FX-i and FZ-i series represents a breakthrough in precision weighing, offering laboratory-grade performance in a compact, rugged housing. Built on A&D’s patented Compact Super Hybrid Sensor (C-SHS), these balances deliver a lightning-fast 1-second stabilization time and unwavering accuracy, whether you are weighing single kernels of powder or high-volume industrial liquids.

The Professional Choice for Precision Reloading & Ballistics

The A&D FX-120i Grain Balance is the undisputed “Gold Standard” for the long-range shooting community. It is the heart of the modern reloading bench, specifically engineered to eliminate the frustrations of cheaper digital scales.

  • AutoTrickler Ready: The FX-120i is the required balance for the AutoTrickler (V3 & V4) Its high-speed RS-232C interface allows for seamless communication, enabling automated powder dispensing with a resolution of 0.02 grains (0.001g).
  • Zero-Drift Technology: Unlike standard scales that “creep” due to temperature or static, the FX-120i uses Magnetic Force Restoration to ensure your zero stays true from the first charge to the last.
  • Single-Kernel Accuracy: Achieve the ultra-consistent charge weights necessary to shrink your Extreme Spread (ES) and Standard Deviation (SD) for F-Class, PRS, and ELR competition.
  • Bullet & Projectile Manufacturing: A favourite for projectile manufacturers, the FX-i series allows for rapid, precise weight-sorting to ensure uniform Ballistic Coefficients (BC) across every batch.

Advanced Liquid Filling & Industrial Mixing

For pharmaceutical, chemical, and manufacturing sectors, the higher-capacity models (up to 5200g) offer unparalleled performance for liquid handling and dosing.

  • Dynamic Liquid Filling: With a 1-second stabilization time, the balance reacts instantly to the flow of liquid. This is critical for precision filling and “topping up” vessels without overshooting your target weight.
  • Comparator Function: Features an internal buzzer and visual “High/OK/Low” indicators, making manual batching and quality control checks fast and foolproof.
  • Percentage & Statistical Modes: Ideal for complex chemical blending. Automatically calculate the percentage of an additive or use the Statistical Calculation Function (SCF) to track the average and standard deviation of your production runs.
  • Underhook Weighing: Every model includes a built-in underhook, allowing for density determination and specific gravity measurements of solids and liquids.

Key Features

  • C-SHS Sensor Technology: Patented Magnetic Force Restoration sensor provides the stability of a traditional lab balance in a compact B5 footprint.
  • Vacuum Fluorescent Display (VFD): Large, high-contrast screen ensures clear readings in low-light reloading rooms or bright laboratory environments.
  • Overload Protection: Internal shock absorber protects the balance from the adverse effects of vertical and transverse overloading.
  • Breeze Break Included: A compact windshield comes standard (on 0.001g models) to eliminate interference from air currents and HVAC drafts.
  • FZ-i Internal Calibration: The FZ-i range features one-touch automatic internal calibration, perfect for environments with fluctuating temperatures.
  • Portable Power: An optional internal rechargeable battery pack is available, allowing for mobile weighing and field testing.

Recommended Maintenance

To maintain the 0.02gn precision required for shooting and high-end lab work, we highly recommend a high-quality 100g M1 Test Weight for daily calibration. Click here to view our range of test weights.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please see below for answers to frequently asked questions.

A calibration certificate proves the accuracy of your weighing equipment. It is very likely that if accuracy matters in your workplace, certification will be required by your industry regulators. They are straightforward to get hold of though. Just ask our team.

If you are trading or transacting anything by weight, you will probably need to demonstrate your weighing equipment is verified for trade use. This gives your customers confidence in your business and will make sure buying and selling run smoothly. We can help get you with relevant approvals for your equipment.

The answer will vary depending on how your equipment is used. As a minimum, we typically recommend once a year but our team can provide advice based on your individual circumstances.

The International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) has established standards for the classification of calibration test weights. Varying from E0 & E1, which are the most accurate to M2 which are commonly used for calibrating platform scales, floor scales and other industrial weighing instruments.

As a rough guide we have listed desired accuracy against class below.

+/- 0.1% – UNclassed Proof Load Test Weights
+/- 0.05% – M3 (Check/calibrate coarse scales)
+/- 0.005% – M1 (Check/calibrate standard scales)
+/- 0.0015% – F2 (Check/calibrate portable balances)
+/- 0.0005% – F1 (Check/calibrate precision balances)
+/- 0.00015% – E2 (Check/calibrate analytical balances)

The choice of weight class depends on the intended use and the level of accuracy required for a particular application. If you’re unsure, talk to our team who can advise you on the right class for your equipment.

If you’re sending a scale back to us for recalibration, it is ideal to use the original packaging. If this is not available choose a sturdy well-padded box to avoid shocks. Where possible, protect the load sensor by removing the weighing pan and any under-pan support and pack these separately in the box. You may be able to use the equipment’s locking pins or screws too.

Do ensure all the paperwork, including your contact details, is included to ensure we can return it once calibration is complete.
