Description

OHAUS Explorer & Explorer Plus Analytical Balances: Precision Down to 0.1mg.

If you need a precise balance, the OHAUS Explorer 2025 Model Analytical Balance is one of the best options available. These balances are accurate down to 0.1 mg and designed to make weighing tasks even faster, easier, and more repeatable.

Choose between two types: The core Explorer (EXR), and the advanced Explorer Plus (EXP). Both have excellent accuracy and performance. The Plus version, however, includes extra compliance and automation features such as motorized levelling, a built-in ionizer, and full traceability. This makes it suitable for highly regulated industries such as labs.

Explorer vs. Explorer Plus – Key Differences

Your choice will depend on your application. Here is a clear comparison:

Feature Explorer (EXR) – Core Analytical Balance Explorer Plus (EXP) – Pro Analytical Balance
Best For General research, QA/QC, education Pharma, biotech, advanced R&D, regulated labs
Levelling Manual adjustment with digital guide Fully automatic motorized levelling
Draft shield Standard manual doors Automatic doors with anti-pinch safety
Static Control Not included Built-in ionizer to remove static
Compliance & Data Basic data management 4-level user access, 100k log memory, NTP time sync
Advanced Apps Core weighing modes Adds SQC, pipette adjustment, fill variation

Core Applications You Can Rely On

Both models are equipped with a wide range of weighing modes to cover almost any lab requirement:

  • Basic Weighing
  • Parts Counting
  • Check Weighing
  • Percent Weighing
  • Dynamic Weighing
  • Totalization
  • Formulation
  • Differential Weighing
  • Density Determination
  • Peak Hold

The Explorer Plus also offers advanced applications such as SQC, pipette calibration, fill weight variation, and flow rate control.

Why Laboratories Trust the Explorer Range

What features make the 2025 Ohaus Explorer more efficient:

  • Consistent Accuracy – AutoCalâ„¢ internal calibration keeps results reliable with no manual effort. The two-second stabilization time saves valuable time during busy workflows.
  • User-Friendly Interface – A clear 7-inch glass touchscreen that is both chemical-resistant and easy to navigate.
  • Hands-Free Operation (EXP Model) – Touchless sensors allow you to tare, zero, or print without contact, reducing contamination and wear on the device.
  • Modern Connectivity – Multiple ports, including USB, Ethernet, and RS232, make it easy to link with LIMS systems and transfer data effectively.

In summary; If you need dependable precision for everyday laboratory work, the Explorer EXR is ideal. If compliance, automation, and data traceability are essential, the Explorer Plus (EXP Pro) is the balance that meets those requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please see below for answers to frequently asked questions.

A calibration certificate proves the accuracy of your weighing equipment. It is very likely that if accuracy matters in your workplace, certification will be required by your industry regulators. They are straightforward to get hold of though. Just ask our team.

If you are trading or transacting anything by weight, you will probably need to demonstrate your weighing equipment is verified for trade use. This gives your customers confidence in your business and will make sure buying and selling run smoothly. We can help get you with relevant approvals for your equipment.

The answer will vary depending on how your equipment is used. As a minimum, we typically recommend once a year but our team can provide advice based on your individual circumstances.

The International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) has established standards for the classification of calibration test weights. Varying from E0 & E1, which are the most accurate to M2 which are commonly used for calibrating platform scales, floor scales and other industrial weighing instruments.

As a rough guide we have listed desired accuracy against class below.

+/- 0.1% – UNclassed Proof Load Test Weights
+/- 0.05% – M3 (Check/calibrate coarse scales)
+/- 0.005% – M1 (Check/calibrate standard scales)
+/- 0.0015% – F2 (Check/calibrate portable balances)
+/- 0.0005% – F1 (Check/calibrate precision balances)
+/- 0.00015% – E2 (Check/calibrate analytical balances)

The choice of weight class depends on the intended use and the level of accuracy required for a particular application. If you’re unsure, talk to our team who can advise you on the right class for your equipment.

If you’re sending a scale back to us for recalibration, it is ideal to use the original packaging. If this is not available choose a sturdy well-padded box to avoid shocks. Where possible, protect the load sensor by removing the weighing pan and any under-pan support and pack these separately in the box. You may be able to use the equipment’s locking pins or screws too.

Do ensure all the paperwork, including your contact details, is included to ensure we can return it once calibration is complete.
