Description

The Ohaus Defender 5000 DFL is a standard lift up floor scale for hygienic, heavy-duty industrial weighing. The lift up platform is comprised of durable 304 stainless steel, making it the ideal choice for demanding environments that require frequent, intensive washdown, such as food processing or chemical manufacturing.

Ohaus Defender 5000 DFL is the platform name. We pair it with a IP66 Rated i-DT33XW Washdown Indicator to create a high-performance weighing system. If you would like further configuration please contact us to discuss options.

The Ultimate Hygienic Lift Up Floor Scale Platform

The Ohaus Defender 5000 DFL platform solves the most common challenge in hygiene applications: thorough cleaning. Its unique lift-up design features front handles that allow the entire scale to be tilted upward, providing immediate, complete access to the floor and the underside of the platform. This limits the build-up of bacteria, dirt, and debris, ensuring compliance with strict hygiene standards. This feature is supported with the use of carefully considered gas struts avoiding any additional strain on the user. Our customers are often surprised at how easy it is to lift compared to its size.

Key Platform Features:

  • Hygienic Washdown Design: The unique lift up floor scale mechanism is specifically designed for quick, 360-degree cleaning access, drastically reducing sanitation time.
  • Superior Durability: Constructed from rugged 304 stainless steel with an ultra-low profile and a non-treaded surface.
  • Extreme Protection: Features four OIML-approved, IP68 electro-polished stainless steel load cells that are laser-weld hermetically sealed against dust and water ingress. The junction box is rated IP67.
  • Effortless Loading: The ultra-low profile design, complete with a built-in ramp, simplifies the rolling of drums, carts, and trolleys onto the platform.
  • EasyConnectâ„¢ Technology: Equipped with a 5m double-shielded cable for instant, simple configuration with the i-DT33XW indicator.

Powered by the Ohaus i-DT33XW Washdown Indicator

The Ohaus DFL platform is connected by us to the powerful i-DT33XW Indicator.  The i-DT33XW is reliable display/header unit built to withstand the same harsh, wet conditions as the scale base. Encased in an IP66-rated 304 stainless steel housing, the i-DT33XW is often the perfect choise for your washdown applications.

i-DT33XW Capability Highlights:

  • Washdown Ready: The robust IP66 stainless steel enclosure is protected against powerful jets of water and dust.
  • Enhanced Checkweighing: Boost your throughput with the colour-changing backlight. In Checkweighing mode, the display instantly changes to Green (In-Range), Yellow (Accept), or Red (Reject), providing a vivid visual alert that dramatically reduces operator error.
  • Versatile Application Modes: Beyond basic Weighing, the indicator includes software for:
    • Parts Counting
    • Checkweighing (Weight control)
    • Totalisation (Accumulating weight)
  • Clear Visibility & Mobility: Features a large, bright LCD display for clear readability and can run on an internal rechargeable battery for up to 100 hours of continuous use, offering flexibility for portable operations.
  • Data Connectivity: Includes a built-in bi-directional RS232 interface for simple connection to a printer or PC. Optional kits for Ethernet or USB connectivity are available to integrate seamlessly with your production management systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please see below for answers to frequently asked questions.

A calibration certificate proves the accuracy of your weighing equipment. It is very likely that if accuracy matters in your workplace, certification will be required by your industry regulators. They are straightforward to get hold of though. Just ask our team.

If you are trading or transacting anything by weight, you will probably need to demonstrate your weighing equipment is verified for trade use. This gives your customers confidence in your business and will make sure buying and selling run smoothly. We can help get you with relevant approvals for your equipment.

The answer will vary depending on how your equipment is used. As a minimum, we typically recommend once a year but our team can provide advice based on your individual circumstances.

The International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) has established standards for the classification of calibration test weights. Varying from E0 & E1, which are the most accurate to M2 which are commonly used for calibrating platform scales, floor scales and other industrial weighing instruments.

As a rough guide we have listed desired accuracy against class below.

+/- 0.1% – UNclassed Proof Load Test Weights
+/- 0.05% – M3 (Check/calibrate coarse scales)
+/- 0.005% – M1 (Check/calibrate standard scales)
+/- 0.0015% – F2 (Check/calibrate portable balances)
+/- 0.0005% – F1 (Check/calibrate precision balances)
+/- 0.00015% – E2 (Check/calibrate analytical balances)

The choice of weight class depends on the intended use and the level of accuracy required for a particular application. If you’re unsure, talk to our team who can advise you on the right class for your equipment.

If you’re sending a scale back to us for recalibration, it is ideal to use the original packaging. If this is not available choose a sturdy well-padded box to avoid shocks. Where possible, protect the load sensor by removing the weighing pan and any under-pan support and pack these separately in the box. You may be able to use the equipment’s locking pins or screws too.

Do ensure all the paperwork, including your contact details, is included to ensure we can return it once calibration is complete.
