Description

The Marsden M-600 is the UK’s best-selling hoist weighing solution, trusted by hospitals, care homes, and community nursing teams for over a decade. This Class III and MDD Approved attachment provides a safe, accurate, and dignified way to weigh patients who are unable to stand or use traditional chair scales.

Designed for seamless integration into existing care routines, the M-600 simply clips onto standard “coat hanger” style spreader bars. It allows for precise weight monitoring during routine transfers, ensuring that patient health can be tracked without the need for additional, stressful manual handling.

The Legal Standard for Hoist Weighing

In the UK, the MHRA requires that any weighing attachment used with a patient hoist must be both Class III Approved and Medical Devices Directive (MDD/MDR) Approved. The Marsden M-600 is one of the few devices on the market that meets these rigorous safety and accuracy standards, making it the legally compliant choice for professional medical environments.

Ergonomic and Clinically Focused

The M-600 is designed to make the weighing process as fast and unobtrusive as possible for both the carer and the patient:

  • Universal “Coat Hanger” Compatibility: The attachment is designed to fit the majority of hoists featuring a standard spreader bar (380mm between lifting eyes). For larger or wider spreader bars (480mm), please see the Marsden M-605.

  • Integrated Safety Clips: Features robust safety clips that securely retain the sling straps, ensuring the patient is safe and the scale is correctly aligned for an accurate reading.

  • Full Numeric Keypad: The indicator is equipped with a full keypad, allowing staff to input a patient’s height to calculate Body Mass Index (BMI) instantly.

  • Dual-Display Technology: The clear LCD screens simultaneously display Weight, Height, and BMI, providing a comprehensive health snapshot at a glance.

Portable Precision for Community Care

At just 6kg, the M-600 is exceptionally lightweight, making it an ideal tool for community healthcare professionals visiting patients at home:

  • “Hold” & “Tare” Functions: The “Hold” feature captures an accurate weight even if the patient is moving in the sling, while the “Tare” function allows you to deduct the weight of the sling for a true net reading.

  • Long-Life Battery: The internal rechargeable battery provides up to 55 hours of continuous use (approximately 3,000 weigh-ins) between charges. A mains adaptor is included as standard.

  • Optional Connectivity: For modern data management, the M-600 can be specified with Bluetooth or Wi-Fi modules to send patient data directly to central EMR systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please see below for answers to frequently asked questions.

A calibration certificate proves the accuracy of your weighing equipment. It is very likely that if accuracy matters in your workplace, certification will be required by your industry regulators. They are straightforward to get hold of though. Just ask our team.

If you are trading or transacting anything by weight, you will probably need to demonstrate your weighing equipment is verified for trade use. This gives your customers confidence in your business and will make sure buying and selling run smoothly. We can help get you with relevant approvals for your equipment.

The answer will vary depending on how your equipment is used. As a minimum, we typically recommend once a year but our team can provide advice based on your individual circumstances.

The International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) has established standards for the classification of calibration test weights. Varying from E0 & E1, which are the most accurate to M2 which are commonly used for calibrating platform scales, floor scales and other industrial weighing instruments.

As a rough guide we have listed desired accuracy against class below.

+/- 0.1% – UNclassed Proof Load Test Weights
+/- 0.05% – M3 (Check/calibrate coarse scales)
+/- 0.005% – M1 (Check/calibrate standard scales)
+/- 0.0015% – F2 (Check/calibrate portable balances)
+/- 0.0005% – F1 (Check/calibrate precision balances)
+/- 0.00015% – E2 (Check/calibrate analytical balances)

The choice of weight class depends on the intended use and the level of accuracy required for a particular application. If you’re unsure, talk to our team who can advise you on the right class for your equipment.

If you’re sending a scale back to us for recalibration, it is ideal to use the original packaging. If this is not available choose a sturdy well-padded box to avoid shocks. Where possible, protect the load sensor by removing the weighing pan and any under-pan support and pack these separately in the box. You may be able to use the equipment’s locking pins or screws too.

Do ensure all the paperwork, including your contact details, is included to ensure we can return it once calibration is complete.
