The Perfect Compact Portioning Scale for Small Food Businesses

Looking for a rugged, easy-to-clean scale for your kitchen, bakery, cafe, or catering business without breaking the bank?

We have secured a one-off, final clearance batch of the highly sought-after Adam Astro® ASC 4000. While this specific model is no longer manufactured, it remains an absolute staple for professional food environments that demand durable, commercial-grade kit on a startup budget.

Built entirely with a rugged stainless steel housing and a premium Grade 304 stainless steel weighing pan, the Astro is designed to handle the fast-paced daily wear and tear of commercial food preparation. Its compact footprint means it fits perfectly on crowded countertops, while its smooth surfaces allow you to simply wipe it down between tasks to maintain strict hygiene standards.

Key Features Built for Food Prep

  • Vivid Dual-Colour Backlit Display: The large, 18mm-high LCD screen ensures clear visibility in busy kitchen environments. Smart technology changes the screen from Green to Red to alert you instantly if the scale is overloaded.

  • Simple Two-Button Operation: No complex menus. Effortlessly toggle between weighing units (g, lb, oz, lb:oz) or quickly zero out container weights using the dedicated Tare function.

  • Dual Power Modes: Runs on the included AC mains adapter for permanent bench setup, or use 2 x AAA batteries for complete portability around the kitchen.

  • Built-in Protection: Overload protection keeps the internal load cell safe from accidental drops or heavy pans.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What is the IP rating of the Adam Astro?
A: The Adam Astro does not carry an official IP (Ingress Protection) washdown rating. Instead, it is manufactured with a fully sealed membrane keypad and splash-proof housing. This gives it excellent resistance to wet hands, flour dust, and everyday kitchen spills, allowing you to easily wipe it down with a damp cloth. However, because it lacks a formal washdown rating, it should never be submerged in water or cleaned with a high-pressure hose.

Q: What happens if I miss out on this batch? Can you order more?
A: No, this is a final clearance of an obsolete line, so once these 14 units are sold, we cannot restock them. However, if you do miss out or need a larger quantity, scalesandbalances.co.uk stocks a wide variety of alternative food-grade and fully washdown-rated scales perfect for catering and kitchen applications. Get in touch with our team, and we will happily find the right match for your business.

Q: Why is the price so low?
A: This is a one-off clearance batch of a model that is no longer manufactured by Adam Equipment. We purchased the final remaining warehouse stock at a bulk discount and are passing 100% of those savings directly onto our small business customers.

Q: Why are there no returns or warranties available?
A: To offer this scale at a heavy trade discount, we are selling this final batch on clearance terms. All units are brand new, factory-sealed, and fully inspected before dispatch, but they are sold as-is with no manufacturer warranty or change-of-mind returns.

Q: Can I use this for trade (e.g., selling food directly by weight)?
A: No, the Astro ASC 4000 is not Trade Approved (Class III). It is designed for internal portion control, recipe formulation, catering prep, and kitchen inventory checking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please see below for answers to frequently asked questions.

A calibration certificate proves the accuracy of your weighing equipment. It is very likely that if accuracy matters in your workplace, certification will be required by your industry regulators. They are straightforward to get hold of though. Just ask our team.

If you are trading or transacting anything by weight, you will probably need to demonstrate your weighing equipment is verified for trade use. This gives your customers confidence in your business and will make sure buying and selling run smoothly. We can help get you with relevant approvals for your equipment.

The answer will vary depending on how your equipment is used. As a minimum, we typically recommend once a year but our team can provide advice based on your individual circumstances.

The International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) has established standards for the classification of calibration test weights. Varying from E0 & E1, which are the most accurate to M2 which are commonly used for calibrating platform scales, floor scales and other industrial weighing instruments.

As a rough guide we have listed desired accuracy against class below.

+/- 0.1% – UNclassed Proof Load Test Weights
+/- 0.05% – M3 (Check/calibrate coarse scales)
+/- 0.005% – M1 (Check/calibrate standard scales)
+/- 0.0015% – F2 (Check/calibrate portable balances)
+/- 0.0005% – F1 (Check/calibrate precision balances)
+/- 0.00015% – E2 (Check/calibrate analytical balances)

The choice of weight class depends on the intended use and the level of accuracy required for a particular application. If you’re unsure, talk to our team who can advise you on the right class for your equipment.

If you’re sending a scale back to us for recalibration, it is ideal to use the original packaging. If this is not available choose a sturdy well-padded box to avoid shocks. Where possible, protect the load sensor by removing the weighing pan and any under-pan support and pack these separately in the box. You may be able to use the equipment’s locking pins or screws too.

Do ensure all the paperwork, including your contact details, is included to ensure we can return it once calibration is complete.
